Victor "Dondon" Portugal
Behind the town's success is former Mayor Dondon Portugal and his administration. During his term, Taysan rose from a 5th class to a 2nd class municipality.
INFRASTRUCTURE: Mayor Portugal led various infrastructure projects. In 2015, he modernized the Taysan Municipal Hall, making it one of the most advanced in Batangas. He also built public markets to support local businesses.
SPORTS: As a former scholar-athlete, Mayor Portugal supported Taysan’s athletes by offering full scholarships and establishing the Taysan Sports Complex, Gymnasium, and Dagatan Gymnasium.
EDUCATION: Mayor Portugal prioritized education by building the Taysan Senior High School, the first in Southern Luzon funded by municipal resources. His scholarship programs benefited over 1,000 college students.
SAFETY: In 2016, Taysan’s first fire station was built, enhancing the town’s safety.
ENVIRONMENT: Mayor Portugal championed environmental causes, implementing the Billion Trees Program and National Greening Program. He also halted new quarry and crushing plant projects to protect the area’s natural beauty.
ROAD DEVELOPMENT: Roads in various barangays were asphalted and concreted under his administration, including major projects in partnership with Fortune Cement and the local government.
AWARDS: Taysan received its first Seal of Good Housekeeping Award in 2011 and the Seal of Good Local Governance Award in 2015 under Mayor Portugal’s leadership.
LEGACY: Through his dedication and leadership, Mayor Portugal left Taysan a thriving, progressive town with a bright future for its residents. The town’s abundant natural resources and scenic views are now poised for greater growth with proper governance.
